Duke Chapel, the centerpiece of Duke University, has towered over the campus since the Chapel’s inception in the 1930’s. As it turns out, the original designers of the Chapel misestimated how limestone would change with age. Weather can severely degrade limestone over time, affecting its appearance and structural soundness. More than 80 years later, Duke University called on Associated Scaffolding to help rehabilitate the chapel ceiling, replace the roof and restore several stained glass windows along with much of the woodwork.
Strong Man and Associated Scaffolding have a long history together. Strong Man takes pride in offering the highest quality safety products, and Associated Scaffolding wants only the best equipment for their projects. When it came time to apply debris netting to the exterior of Duke Chapel, Associated Scaffolding looked to Strong Man for our durable, yet lightweight, SBN-22 debris netting. Our netting was wrapped around the scaffolds that surrounded the building, protecting workers and passersby from flying debris.
Our companies work well together because we both care deeply about safety and high quality products. Strong Man always has two warehouses fully stocked, so transactions are easier for customers, like Associated Scaffolding, who need quick access to our products. We’re proud to have worked with Associated Scaffolding for so long and know they will do an excellent job restoring this beautiful gothic chapel to its original glory.
The year-long renovation to Duke Chapel is expected to be completed in May 2016. Check the Duke Chapel website for monthly progress updates and answers to questions about the renovation.
