Renovation Work on St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church

img_1942This year, the congregation of the majestic St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Bethlehem, PA celebrated their 100-year anniversary. The parish was originally established to serve the many immigrant Greek workers in the area. Thanks to a thriving community, the church now belongs in the top 15 list of the largest parishes of the Archdiocese.

A stunning centerpiece of the church is the muraled dome rising above the altar. Measuring 24 feet in diameter, the dome recently showed signs of age with leaks and small flakes of plaster drifting down from the ceiling.

Beth-Allen Scaffold & Equipment, located in Allentown, PA, was contracted to restore the interior of the dome, with plans to renovate the exterior in Spring 2017.

“The dome presented a unique challenge,” says Beth-Allen Scaffold Vice President Matthew Lipp. “We needed a debris net that was aesthetically pleasing to the customer and that precisely fit the shape of the dome.”

Beth-Allen turned to Strong Man Safety Products for the custom debris net. “We’ve been doing business with Strong Man for more than 20 years,” says Lipp. “We knew they would give us exactly what we needed.”

The debris net is a custom round-mesh tarp fabricated from Strong Man’s SBN-324 white fire-retardant netting. The net is an exact fit to the 24’6” dome and allows the church to remain open while renovations take place.

“Beth-Allen is a fantastic company who does amazing work,” notes Jay Kinder, Strong Man CEO and president. “We’re looking forward to seeing the finished renovations at St. Nicholas and are happy to be a part of this project.”
