If this summer had a theme song, Buster Poindexter’s “Hot Hot Hot” comes to mind. With record temperatures making this summer feel three times as hot, the standard methods of keeping cool just aren’t cutting it.
To help you where traditional methods of keeping cool have failed, we’ve compiled a list of wacky tricks you can try that just might make it a little easier to tolerate the summer temps.
- Skip the morning Cup-of-Joe
While you’d probably rather be stuck in an elevator with your mother-in-law before you would willingly skip your morning cup of coffee, caffeinated beverages can leave you feeling dehydrated faster than water. You could order decaf, but let’s be honest—why bother?
- Cooling Sunblock
Aloe Vera isn’t just for sunburn. Try a sunblock with a built-in cooling effect for some much needed mid-day relief. Bonus: You’ve never had more motivation to reapply.
- Chill Towel
A cooling towel used by athletes in warm weather conditions can be just the lunch-hour fix you need to cool down quickly. While a standard workday in the construction industry may not be a marathon, it can start to feel like one after hours in the sun.
- Go for the hottest new gadget on the market
Turns out, it’s actually pretty inexpensive to turn your iPhone into a portable fan. With a small attachment, you can cool down using something you already keep in your pocket. We think it’s about time someone made this app.
- Spice things up
As anyone who has ever overdone it with spicy peppers knows, hot food makes you sweat. While spicy food ranks just about #1 on the “it’s too hot to eat that” list, the sweat you’ll produce after eating some spicy food is a sure-fire way to cool off.
